Upcoming OBA-ADR Section Program - Alternative Dispute Resolution: Failed Mediation

I want to alert readers about an interesting OBA dinner program sponsored by the ADR Section scheduled to take place at the OBA Conference Centre in Toronto on January 18, 2012 at 5:30 pm.  The title of the program is Alternative Dispute Resolution: Failed Mediation. For those unable to attend in person, the program is also available via live webcast.   

The premise for the program is a recent study that indicates that approximately 95% of cases that do not settle at mediation do settle at a later date prior to trial. 

A distinguished panel, chaired by Barry Fisher, comprised of L. Leslie Dizgun, Himelfarb Proszanski LLP, Stephen M. Grant, Grant & Sadvari and Philippa G. Samworth, Dutton Brock LLP,  will explore both the strategic and psychological reasons why litigants are deferring difficult settlement decisions at mediation and what mediators and advocates can do to increase the likelihood of settlement at mediation.
